If you’re looking to begin your career in luxury and lifestyle PR, there is a plethora of information out there. However, it’s so important to speak with people already in the industry to get the insider tips and knowledge.
Our very own superstar account executive, Cath, has shared her top tips for working in a London based PR agency.
- Multitasking
I’ve learnt that the essence of being a good agency PR is learning how to complete several tasks all in the same hour. You need to learn to manage priorities and remember the most important tasks to be done first in the day. Being a multitasker is essential to take on board in a fast-paced agency like Clementine Com! This creates a buzz and energy amongst colleagues which helps drive successful campaigns forward achieving fantastic results at all times.
- Resilience
Being a PR is essentially a sales job. So a great tip is to firstly love what you’re selling. The more you enjoy your clients, and brands you represent, the more you will enjoy talking about them, and building relationships for them. It is clear that resilience is key to a successful career in the industry. Having the ability to keep calm and carry on under stressful working conditions will take you far in the industry.
- Inter-personal skills
PR is all about relationship maintenance and creation with key journalists or industry figures. Being an open-minded, extravert will land you in good stead in the world of PR. Reaching out to people you have never met before to create relationships and build stories together is integral. At the end of the day, a good PR is someone who has the ability to communicate well. This way a brand’s story can be well told, and can reach large audiences. It also means that as you learn more about the brands you represent, talking about them becomes human nature not only within the workplace, helping to expand their reputation amongst an even wider consumer audience.
- Forward thinking
Being a forward thinking, creatively inspired person will be great for a career in PR! Being in PR means constantly finding new ways to talk to audiences and breach the gap between a brand, consumer and media figure. Being able to think ahead whilst working on a project is really useful to bring to the table, since you will be able to anticipate and plan better for the next event, campaign, product launch!
- Conscientious
Sounds simple, but its true! As with any job, to be successful in what you do, you need to be hardworking and in PR this translates as going the extra mile. PR is a wonderful and integral career to be a part of, you play a big part in driving sales and building an image of a brand. You get to host incredible events, travel and also meet interesting people on your journey. However with all the glamour also comes the grafting.
- Energetic
Bringing energy into PR I have found to be super useful so far. It is a dynamic career with lots of interchanging pieces constantly moving and adapting. Having energy is pivotal in driving campaigns and delivering excellent results for clients!
