Kent Tastes Romania – In Yorkshire

From Friday to Sunday, Romania’s largest and arguably prime exporter of wine, Cramele Recas, will be proudly sponsoring the Harrogate Foodies Festival – which bills itself as the: ‘UK’s largest celebration of food & drink.’

Friendly and charismatic, Laura Kent, an Oddbins manager turned owner of Yorkshire Wine Schools will be presenting Recas’ Paparuda range of red, white and rosé from 2014 over eight tastings during the festival, each brimming with 100 guests.

Recas, founded by ebullient, Bristol-born, Philip Cox, recently accrued 40 new employees and a €2m bottling line to help it deliver some 4.2m bottles to the UK from an annual production exceeding 11.6m bottles.

Not only has Romania’s richly-textured landscape charmed HRH Prince Charles, who owns – and lets to civilians – two holiday homes in World Heritage village Viscri and Zalanpatak, but the wide variations in climate mean it has ample resources to draw from when it comes to crafting wine, from the cool north west for willowy wines to the south, where fragrant pours emerge.

The Harrogate Foodies Festival occurs at Ripley Castle and gardens, on the edge of the Dales national park (HG3 3AY).

Clementine Communications are also mustering a press trip to Recas in November, taking in the Rovinhud Wine Fair – praised by Jancis Robinson OBE.
