Rovinhud Wine Fair 2015

This weekend, Clementine Communications embarks on a trip to Romania to introduce a new raft of oenophile journalists to the country’s vinous highlights, including those from our client’s esteemed winery, Cramele Recas.

We will also be taking in the Rovinhud Wine Fair as well as transporting our guests direct to the Avincis and Prince Stirbey wineries.

‘Wine brings people together’ is the motto of the Rovinhud Wine Fair, which is ‘entirely organised by volunteers.’

This year, special guests who ‘hold their presentations pro bono’ include UK Masters of Wine, Julia Harding and Caroline Gilby. Harding, representing The Oxford Companion to Wine, will be hosting a tasting entitled, ‘What’s New?’, comprising wines from Santa Barbara County, Hungary, Italy and Australia. She says: ‘it will be a great opportunity for me to find out more about what is happening on the Romanian wine scene today and to support an event with such a brilliant reason to exist.’

‘The idea was so blissfully simple. Why hadn’t I come across it before? A major consumer wine tasting was organised by and in aid of a group of local disabled young people. Everyone benefited. The exhibitors had a chance to talk directly to seriously interested wine consumers for the first time. We participants had the pleasure of meeting and being impressed by these young people about whom, I am ashamed to say, I might in other circumstances have made all sorts of wildly inaccurate assumptions. And the young people themselves had a chance to show off their many skills while raising money for a minibus. Where did I encounter this benign marvel? Somewhere perhaps unexpected, the city of Timișoara in south-western Romania…’

Meanwhile, other masterclasses will look closer to home, including Sunday’s ‘Feteasca Neagră in the eyes of producers’.

Philip Cox, owner of Cramele Recas and Vice President of Wines of Romania, will be present throughout the weekend.
