The ultimate wine pairing guide by Clementine Com

When it comes to pairing wines with delicious Christmas food, the tension is high and the margin for error thin. The festive season is such an important time of the year and no one wants to be the one ruining Christmas day making the wrong pairing choice, do you?

As here at Clementine Com we work with incredible wine clients and, let’s be honest, we have tried them all, we have decided to suggest the best wine pairing to make your Christmas one to remember!

Let’s start with canapes. These little nibbles of joy are the perfect way to kick start the Christmas lunch and which better way to start celebrating if not with some Spanish Cava?!

Our personal recommendation you might ask? The iconic Codorniu that with more than 450 years of heritage, definitely knows how to get the celebrations going!

Codorniu offers a variety of products but we would personally recommend pairing your canapes with Codorniu Vintage Brut, the traditional flagship cuvée made from local varieties gets a fresh and savoury sparkling, or Anna de Codorniu Brut, versatile and brilliant, is the perfect smooth and silky drink to mark the start of any festive celebration!

Moving on with starters, Cramele Recas’ Curious Parallel is the perfect choice to wow your guests.

From fish to meat, Cramele Recas Curious Parallel has everything you could ask for. Curious Parallel Feteasca Regala is an exotic wine, with white pepper, cinnamon, fresh quince and floral aromas and a vibrant structure. This is a perfect pair for Cajun blackened white fish steaks.

For those who prefers a meaty starter, Curious Parallel Feteasca Neagra is a spicy but elegant dark with ripe fruit flavours. This medium body with light tannins and a long smooth finish is the perfect wine to accompany a good plate of pappardelle with ragu sauce to delight the senses.

To taste the magic of Christmas at its fullest, Domaine Clarence Dillon proposes two of its most exquisite wines from Chateau Quintus.

Chateau Quintus’ 2016 rouge is a rich full-bodied wine with complex satins contributing to its full flavour and sensational nose. It perfectly accentuates the festive period through its celebratory nature and rich feel. It is flawlessly enjoyed with red meats and root vegetables.

Meanwhile, the Le Dragon de Quintus 2016, formed of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is a round and gourmand wine with a decent lift and freshness. This wine is perfectly paired with cheese.

To finish your meal on a sweet note, VIDA Wines & Spirits have all you need to feel festive while the Christmas jokes roll around.

From VIDA’s amazing selection, Clementine Com has picked its winner: Angherhof-Tschida Beerenauslese 2017. With pronounced stone fruit, especially peach and ripe pineapple with a touch of light spice, this exquisite wine has a great depth on the palate and makes the perfect pairing with light desserts, sorbets or fresh fruits.

Whilst VIDA Wines & Spirits specialises in the Central and Eastern European wine regions, the online site also showcases a range of quality wines from across Europe all available to UK consumers online.
